Hello Parents!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Martin Luther King extended weekend! We are into Theme 5 week 3 in Language Arts. This week we will work with Phonic skills: Long i sound (consonant vowel consonant with e endings). We will look at Contractions and reviewing final sounds nd, ng, nk. Review Digraphs; sh, th, ch, wh, tch and soft c and g words. In reading comprehension we will focus on Cause and Effect. Grammar will focus on using I and me in sentences. In writing we will focus on writing a class paragraph. Vocabulary will focus on base words with ing endings. High frequency words are: give, good, her, little, try, was, fly, our. Our

In Mathematics we are finishing Topic 9 Patterns, Test on WEDNESDAY! and we will begin Topic 10 Time this week.

The Spelling Test will be on Friday!

 Please read with your child at least 20 minutes a day!

Parent Letter for week of January 9th

Hello Parents!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We are into Theme 5 week 2 in Language Arts. This week we will work with Phonic skills: Long a sound CVCe (Consonant Vowel Consonant with E endings), Final sounds nd, ng, nk. Review Digraphs; sh, th, ch, wh, tch. In reading comprehension we will focus on making generalizations and summarizing. In writing we will focus on writing a personal narrative. Vocabulary will focus on state and country names. High frequency words are: could, house, how, over, own, so, world.

In Mathematics we are beginning Topic 9 Patterns. Our Topic 8 test is Today!

Please have your child wear their Character Counts color on Friday.

 No school next Monday! MLK holiday

The Spelling Test will be on Friday!

 Please read with your child at least 20 minutes a day!

Hello Parents!

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! We are into the final stretch until break! I want to wish for everyone to have a happy and healthy holidays! This week we are into Theme 4 called Family and Friends Week 3. In this week we will focus on Phonic skills: Triple Clusters and short u sound words. We will review short e words and clusters with s words. In reading comprehension we will focus on Monitor/Clarify and Sequence of Events. In writing we will focus on asking sentences and writing a class letter. Vocabulary will focus on question words; Noise words. High Frequency words are car, down, hear, hold, hurt, learn, their, walk, would.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS, WE WILL have morning rotations This week!

In Mathematics we’re continuing with Topic 8 Geometry.

Spelling Test will be Friday!

 Our Class Holiday Party will be on Friday @ 10:30-12:00. If you want to volunteer or donate a food item for the party please contact Mrs. Weatherton.

Parent Letter for week of December 5th

Hello Parents!

I hope you all had a nice weekend! This week we are into Theme 4 called Family and Friends Week 2. In this week we will focus on Phonic skills: Clusters with s; Silent letters in kn, wr, gn words. We will review short e words and clusters with l words. In reading comprehension we will focus on Evaluate, Compare/Contrast. In writing we will focus on telling sentences and writing a class message. Vocabulary will focus on sensory words.

In Mathematics we are finishing up Topic 7. (OUR TEST IS TOMORROW- TUESDAY!) We will then begin Topic 8 Geometry.

 

 PARENTS we are on for Morning Rotations this week!

The Spelling Test will be on Friday! Please try and read with your child 20-30 minutes a day!

 Our School-wide Toy drive ends this Friday! You van bring a new unwrapped toy to our room. We have a collection box there.

 Character Counts assembly is Friday @ 9:00 in the multi-purpose room.

Thanksgiving Week News

Hello Parents,

This week we will be covering Thanksgiving related activities. We will not be having parent Volunteers on Tuesday. Our Feast will start promptly at 11:00 on Monday morning. Thank you for all your contributions leading up to the feast! There is no homework this week! Remember no school Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday!

Hello Parents!

I hope you all had a nice 3 day weekend! This week we are into Theme 3 called Let’s Look Around! Week 3. In this week we will focus on Phonic skills: Clusters with r; Contractions with ‘s and review verb plurals with ed, ing, -s. High-Frequency words are: also, blue, brown, color, funny, green, like, many, some. In reading comprehension we will focus on Questioning, Categorize/Classify. In writing we will focus on writing an action part to a sentence and writing about trips. Vocabulary will focus on color words and words that show position.

In Mathematics we are continuing Topic 6. (Test will be Friday!!) (1st Grade Math)

The Spelling Test will be on Friday! Please try and read with your child 20-30 minutes a day!

 Our Thanksgiving Feast is Monday the 22nd! From 11:00-12:00. Arrive early as we will be having a little performance beforehand. Don’t forget those cameras! If you haven’t already signed up to bring something please contact Mrs. Weatherton.

 Our next Scholastic Order is in the homework folders this week.

 Friday is Twin Day!

Week of November 7th – November 10th , 2011 Issue 11

 Wow, there is so much to do in November and this month just flies by. We will be needing parent volunteers to help out in the preparation of the Thanksgiving Feast that will be on Monday, November 21st at 11:00. An email/and or letter has been sent out about what is needed for this event.

 This Friday, November 11, is Veteran’s Day- there is No School!

 Included in this week’s homework folder is a page giving you information on an excellent math website- IXL. The school district has provided each student with a free subscription (if you were to subscribe to this site yourself, it would cost you around $80/yr). The enclosed page gives you your child’s username and password. You can access the state math standards and choose which skills to have your child practice.

Curriculum

 

 In Math we are starting Topic six, Addition Facts to 12.

 This week in Language Arts we continue the third theme in our literature series, Let’s Look Around. Concepts Focus: Predict/Infer; Comprehension Skill: Making predictions; Vocab: possessives; words that describe size; Grammar: naming parts of a sentence; Writing: paragraph writing (main idea and details).

Welcome Back Everyone and Happy Halloween!

I hope you all had a great break! Well, this week we will jump right back into things. This week we will start Theme 3 called Let’s Look Around! Week 1. In this week we will focus on Phonic skills: Final consonants; Double final consonants and plurals with -s. In reading comprehension we will focus on Topic, Main Idea, Details/summarizing. Vocabulary will focus on Seasons of the Year; Months of the year. In writing we will focus on writing complete sentences with a naming parts (nouns) and an action parts (verbs).

In Mathematics we are beginning Topic 6, addition facts to 12.

The Spelling Test will be on FRIDAY. Please try and read with your child 20-30 minutes a day!

 This Thursday is Magic Night at La Costa Heights We hope you can make it!

 Parents we will have morning rotations this week!

 Our 1st Grade Feast is coming up. ( Nov. 21st )I will be sending home a letter explaining what will be taking place.

 I hope you all had a nice weekend – a Big Thank You to all of the parents who helped out at the Fall Festival. I’d also like to thank those of you who came and enjoyed the festivities and made your donations to our Wave Fund! We hope you had a good time! 
 Our field trip to the Bate’s Nut Farm is this Wednesday, Oct. 12th. Please remember to send your child to school with a disposable sack lunch, comfy shoes, sunscreen pre-applied and/or a hat.
Mr.Garner’s drivers are: Bowidowicz, Weatherton, Clynch, Greenberg, Haney, Kendall, Preston, Kirk, Racine, Vangleebbek(1) Hughes(1).
* DRIVERS: If you haven’t already turned in your insurance forms, please do so by this Tuesday. We will be leaving school by 8:30a.m., so please be here by 8:15a.m. Thank you in advance for your help!!
 Our fall class party will be this Friday. As far as Halloween goes, unfortunately, district policy is that students will not be able to wear their costumes to school on Halloween Day.
Curriculum
 In Math, we are beginning Topic 5, Five and Ten Relationships.
 The first science rotation will end this Thursday, Oct. 13th. The next rotation will begin after the October Break.
 In Language Arts, we are continuing to read and write about Halloween related activities. We will resume the Theme 3 lessons after break.

 October 12 – First Grade Field Trip to Bates Nut Farm

Hello Parents!

I hope you all had a great weekend! It was a pleasure meeting with you for conferences last week. This week we are finishing Theme 2 week 3 called Surprise!. In this week we will focus on Phonic skills: consonants: q, j, z; and blending short u words. We will also review blending short e words. The High Frequency words for this week are: are, away, does, he, live, pull, they, where. In reading comprehension we will focus on summarizing and story structure. Vocabulary will focus on days of the week and homographs. In writing we will focus on writing about bugs. Words with q, j, z; and blending short u words.

In Mathematics we are beginning Topic 4 understanding Subtraction.

The Spelling Test will be on Friday. Please try and read with your child 20-30 minutes a day!

• Please remember to bring in your signed permission slips and payment for our Bates Nut Farm field trip and our early payment for the March field trip ASAP!!

• Parents we are back on for Volunteers!

• Next Monday October 3rd is Picture Day!

• The Character Trait for this week is Caring

• Our Fall Festival is this Saturday, so come on out!
